1580-1582 Vernon Drive
The City, BC Housing, and Community Builders are pleased to announce the completion of an essential temporary modular housing project. The 1580 & 1582 Vernon Drive “Álewem” TMH site features two, three-storey temporary modular housing buildings offering a total of 98 single occupancy studio homes.
The buildings derive their name from the the Stó:lō Nation Halq’emeylem-language. “Álewem” means “to be or stay home”.
Each building features a commercial kitchen, laundry, and communal amenity spaces (indoor and outdoor). Each new home is around 320 sq.ft. and contains a bathroom and a kitchenette. 10% of the homes are wheelchair accessible.
BC Housing has selected Community Builders Group as the non-profit housing operator to oversee tenanting and management of the buildings, as well as to provide support services to the tenants 24/7, including life skills training, volunteer work, employment preparation, and connections to community-based programs.
Priority tenanting was given to people experiencing homelessness or people at risk of becoming homeless living in the local neighbourhood.
